Breathing Re-education

Master your breath!

Did you know your body can be re-trained to breathe correctly?

While mouth breathing is often seen as ‘normal’ it is, in reality, the basis of many dysfunctional habits and poor health outcomes.

Teeth clenching and/or grinding at night, elevated stress levels, sleep disturbances, TMJ concerns, head and neck tension, heightened seasonal allergy and asthma presentations, even voice strain, and less-than-optimal sports performance can all be related to breathing patterns during sleep, rest, and daily activity.

As a trained breathing ‘re-educator’ in the BreatheAbility method, Cathy loves seeing the progress made when the ‘lights go on’ and her clients (young and old) experience the benefits of correct and efficient nasal breathing and its flow-on effects in symptom reduction. Correct and efficient nasal breathing is a crucial part of every successful health journey and is incorporated into every aspect of Cathy’s orofacial myofunctional therapy care.

Breathing retraining, or rehabilitation, is also complementary to other established breathing interventions such as ENT surgery, splints, CPAP etc, and is often recommended by practitioners who understand the need for and benefits for their clients.

(No referral is necessary.)

(The BreatheAbility method is a technique developed in Australia, by physiotherapist Tess Graham, to normalise correct nasal breathing. Tess was one of Australia’s first specialist breathing educators in the Buteyko Method of breathing retraining.)
