More about Cathy
Cathy has a wealth of experience and an excellent reputation in the oral health care of children and adults, which spans 45 years. She graduated as a NSW dental therapist in 1980 (awarded the David Bracken Memorial Award) and completed dental hygiene studies in 2026 in Queensland through UQ and QUT.
With a keen interest in physiological and holistic health improvement, a proven track record of health improvement advocacy, and a passion for self-education/professional development, it was natural to move toward orofacial myology when the opportunity presented itself in 2017.
Cathy completed courses in orofacial myology and thumb sucking cessation through the Australian Academy of Orofacial Myology, is a trained breathing educator in the ‘BreatheAbility’ method, has completed TMJ training in functional neuro myofascial techniques and is a Certified MyoMunchee practitioner. She also assists MyoMunchee Australia in practitioner development.
Cathy’s podcast, Beyond Brushing—Optimised Oral Health Outcomes, features interviews with experts on a wide range of dental/oral function health topics.
Cathy experienced the effects of airway restrictions, tonsil and adenoid surgery, open mouth breathing and orthodontic treatment as a youngster, and the effects were further encountered during her athletic ‘career’ as a cross-country runner, basketball player, and coach. She understands the interplay between the form and function of oral/facial/airway consideration and the health benefits that can be achieved with early or timely intervention where necessary.
Cathy established the successful Townsville Orofacial Myology Clinic (TOfM) in 2017. The clinic offered both face-to-face and telehealth services until December 2024, when Cathy and her husband relocated back to southern NSW following a wonderful twenty-one years in Townsville, Qld.
In 2025, the clinic was rebranded as ‘The Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist’ (TOfMT) and now offers orofacial myofunctional services and consultations to clients and families via telehealth. Cathy’s ability to engage, encourage, and educate her clients and families is demonstrated in the health improvement outcomes her clients continue to experience.
